yanar mohammed

Alongside the ranks of our solidarity women across the globe, we declare our strongest terms of condemnation and denunciation regarding the brutal and horrific assassination of feminist activist Yanar Mohammed, who was killed in cold blood in front of her home. This appalling crime is a new addition to the record of barbaric violence against women, activists, and all those who struggle for freedom, dignity, and equality.

We, in the Iraq Coordination, hold the State and its security and political apparatuses fully responsible for this bloody escalation that targets women and terrorizes society. This act is a political extension of the systematic structural violence against our bodies and our freedoms.

The assassination of Yanar Mohammed is not an isolated act or an individual incident; rather, it is part of a system of methodical repression targeting female leaders and activists in the social and political fields, in an attempt to silence the voice of change and liberation. We reject this dark record, and we demand the prosecution of everyone involved in this crime, and the disclosure of its circumstances with full transparency before the public.

We say it clearly:

You will not intimidate us, and you will not silence us.

You will not stop our march toward liberation, equality, and justice.

We will not forget, and we will not forgive the ongoing violence against women activists and professionals in our societies.

This crime serves as a reminder that the patriarchal, classist, authoritarian, and violent system will not hesitate to target women fighters; however, we are too strong to retreat or surrender. We will continue the struggle for:

  • Protecting women from lethal violence.
  • Ensuring justice and accountability against killers and criminals.
  • Building free, safe, and equal societies for all women and marginalized people.
  • We remain committed to our pledge, and our will shall never be broken.
